On July 31, 2021 the POATRI Board of Directors added the Water Committee as a standing committee.

On July 31, 2021 the POATRI Board of Directors formed the Dark Skies Task Force.

Terlingua Ranch is a 200,000 acre community embedded within one of the largest International Bio Reserves in the world.

The purpose of the Water Committee is to provide both research and direction for a water management plan for Terlingua Ranch, and to provide education to property owners with regard to water sources, usage, and conservation.

The responsibilities include providing ongoing and contiguous oversight of the water conditions on Terlingua Ranch, and provide research, analysis, and guidance with regard to water distribution and conservation to the Board of Directors and Management.

The Committee will be chaired by a Board Member, who with the Ranch Manager will select members as needed from the Board, employees, other committees, and property owners.

The Chihuahuan Desert Biogeographical Zone is an area greater than 5000 square miles. It is one multi-site Biosphere Reserve  consisting of Big Bend National Park in Texas and the Agricultural Research Service’s La Jornada Experimental Range in Mexico were designated by UNESCO in 1976. Mapimi, nominated in 1977, is located in the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, and Durango and is administered by Mexico’s Institute of Ecology. The activities in each Biosphere Reserve are complimentary so together, Big Bend, Jornada, and Mapimi form a “regional” reserve in the true sense of the MAB model.
